Hi There! My name is Leanne Elson and I am Inuit from southern Labrador. I have been living in Fredericton for over 7 years and have been crafting since I was old enough to sew. I started learning to sew moccasins from my Aunt and with practice, moved on to mittens and mukluks, then to jewelry. Only recently I have put a name to my crafts, “Rugged Coast Crafts”, since the places I’ve spent growing up and exploring were rugged, barren and were the best places in the world to explore nature and live off the land and sea. Though I am located in New Brunswick, my Inuit roots and culture are still a big part of my life and who I am. I try to incorporate as much as I can from nature into useable/wearable products. I like to use many parts of an animal, so nothing goes to waste. Seal and waterfowl were a big part of my diet growing up, so you will see that my favorite material to work with is typically sealskin and feathers. I often have a supply of earrings on hand, however I also make moccasins and mittens by request.
